Congratulations Peggy Lanahan
May 2017 Merrill Lynch Choice Award Winner
by Betsy Slocum
Springtime in May brings with it embellished bonnets, mint juleps, and “The Run for the Roses”. So, what better way to usher in the Derby than to celebrate Peggy Lanahan’s Choice Award Winning piece entitled “Budweiser Clydesdale”!
This endearing pastel piece displays the proud attitude that envelopes the status of stature demanded of a Budweiser Clydesdale. Peggy was inspired to capture the realism in this work after a visit to the Bud plant where mobile stables were located in observance of St. Patrick’s Day.
In 1933, to celebrate the end of Prohibition, the Busch sons gave a Clydesdale as a gift to their father…and so the tradition started! Some fun facts about these amazing animals include shoes that are each 20″ across, all hitch horses must be geldings, possess a white blaze, four white stockings, a black mane and tail, be at least 18hh, and over four years old!
Getting back to Peggy…she is no stranger to The Landings relocating several years ago from the northeast New York/New Jersey area with her husband, Tom. A longtime, valued volunteer of the LAA, she has garnered many notable awards from organizations including the PSA, Pen and Brush, the Roslyn Museum in New York and most recently being chosen Best in Show at the 2016 Merrill Lynch Fall Art Show. Her art reflects admiration of nature and her surroundings featuring a wide range of subject matter from friendly faces to our mellow marshland!
Peggy’s Choice Award Winning work will be on display and for sale at the Merrill Lynch/LAA Atrium Gallery until June 30. The Gallery is open to the general public Monday through Friday from 9 am to 4 pm and is located within the Merrill Lynch building, Skidaway Island Village.
