As a child growing up amid the steel factories north of Pittsburgh, my favorite toy was the 64 crayola crayon box. After earning a BS in Nursing from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, I continued to live and work in the upper midwest, including Minneapolis and Milwaukee, while enjoying motherhood and long careers in both nursing and real estate. My husband and I moved to The Landings in 2011.
About the Work:
As basically a self taught artist with a passion for painting, I read about art, looked at art, and focused my travel on art. I have taken workshops whenever time permitted as well as painting and design classes at the University of Wisconsin. I believe that painting is a process that starts with a concept and takes you wherever your imagination leads. Different visual moments, color, shadow, shape, word, song or phrase starts the mind thinking how that could be made into an interesting or intriguing canvas. Sometimes, you know exactly how it will end, sometimes you are surprised. Painting provides the joy of a fully engaged mind and all the wonder that implies. The real importance is in the ecstatic process of the engagement.
Retirement has afforded me the luxury of significant time to practice creativity. I use both oils and acrylics and have recently explored “found object” collage. Sparked by the natural beauty of the Savannah Area, the interesting flora and fauna have become new subjects. While in Wisconsin, I painted with a wonderful group of
women artists, led by a local painter and gallery owner. Our work was sold through her gallery at semi-annual shows. Since moving to the Landings, I have participated in shows at The Plantation and Merrill Lynch Galleries. I can be contacted at 414-659-6498 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
